Church Council -
The Church Council functions as the administrative body of the church and provides for planning and implementing programs that nurture, outreach, and witness to the community. Council membership is comprised of the chairperson of each of the service teams, the pastor and paid staff; however, any member of the church is welcome to attend the scheduled meetings.

Lay Leadership
Lay leaders are appointed and are the primary representatives of the church's congregation (lay people). At United Methodist Church of the Joyful Healer, three Lay Leaders share the role of the more commonly found solo Lay Leader. They meet with the pastor regularly to support him/her in the operations of the church and the church's many involvements, activities and commitments.  They also work with the church's leadership to address the hopes and concerns of the congregation and community. Lay leaders develop ways in which people can serve within the church and outward into the community and seek ways within the faith community to grow and support the church's ministries.

Trustees

Trustees are appointed and serve by supervising and maintaining all aspects of the property belonging to the congregation so that the ongoing ministries can be effective.

Staff Parish Relations -

The Staff Parish Relations Committee works like the Human Resources or Personnel department in a company. They confer with and counsel the pastor and staff on the matters pertaining to the effectiveness of ministry; relationships with the congregation; and conditions that may impede the effectiveness of ministry. This committee develops written policies and procedures for effective ministry.

Stewardship -

The Stewardship Committee functions much as an accounting department in a company. It maintains accurate records of all funds received and it disburses all money contributed to the local church budget keeping accurate records of how money is spent. The committee works to maintain compliance with all applicable governmental tax guidelines; works according to the guidelines established by the church council and participates in and reports regularly to the church council, and the charge conference.

Building and Planning
Building and Planning Team is an ad-hoc committee charged with coordinating the design and building of a new facility on our Mill Creek site.

This committee focuses on providing a Christian instructional and nurturing environment for children ages birth through sixth grade. They hear Bible stories and participate in relevant activities; help serve communion to the church family; engage in functions that are socially responsible or have a mission theme; and are involved in music, games and a variety of projects both inside and outside of class.

Nurture -

This work group focuses on nurturing the church family physically, spiritually and emotionally through a variety of means. They strive to welcome new people, check on those who have not been in attendance for a while, operate the prayer chain and in general provide a variety of support whenever it is needed [meals, transportation, shawls for the ill].

School for Life Enrichment -

The focus of this work group is to organize and implement activities that encourages each other on a spiritual journey, help us to know God better by living kindly and in health, and by doing something beautiful for God in our lives and the creation.

Performing Arts -

Worship & Visual Arts -

Focus of Worship and Visual Arts is to provide the church with a pleasant setting for worship. Functions of the committee include: collaborating with the pastor and music leaders in planning worship; furnishing sacramental elements [communion, baptism]; caring for and setting up sanctuary and sacramental elements; coordinating provision of food and drink for socialization after worship service; and creating a visual environment that fosters and promotes a welcoming environment.

Community Outreach -
.
The Community Outreach ministry serves to further the mission and values of the United Methodist Church of the Joyful Healer. Some of the ways of service are: providing a community food pantry; sending volunteers on relief missions to Mexico and Mississippi; providing shelter meals; promoting Earth Day and leading an environmental stewardship study group; participating in the annual Coastal Cleanup Project for beach cleanup; fund raising for Humboldt Habitat for Humanity or Heifer Project; partnering with Education Committee to host the annual alternative to shopping Children's Christmas Craft Fair; assisting with the Northern Humboldt Ministerial Association Thanksgiving Meal; informing our church family on social concerns through the Community Outreach bulletin board; and by blessing the community through the Joyful Healer booth at the Azalea Festival.
